Biography
Cathy Smith who is also Zara Brooks-Watson and Sophia Watson, lives in northern Maine with her huge 12 lb. Yorkshire Terrier, Mr. Sparky Smith aka Biggie Smalls. As Cathy Smith she writes poetry and takes photographs for her poetry books (on Kindle), and speaks "Yorkie" to her dog, especially when he grumbles. Cathy is an avid supporter of signing online petitions and communicating/donating to various Humane Societies. Her dog, Sparky, was a rescue, as have been all her pets.
She also takes delight in creating cozy mystery series (Jitterbug & Tie Dye as Zara Brooks-Watson) and The Silver Lake Cozy Mystery series (as Sophia Watson). These ebooks are in many national and international digital bookstores.
She attended Boston University, graduating magna cum laude -- and also Harvard University. In fact, one of her favorite places is Harvard Yard where she used to wait for the Dudley bus underneath the huge trees in the yard. It was a nice shelter from the light Boston rains. Also, she was a regular at the sauna and steam room at the L Street Beach (Bathhouse) in South Boston. Back in the day, for five dollars a day, one could swim in Dorchester Bay from the Bathhouse beach and use a steamy shower, sauna and steam room all day long for a mini-vacation. Many poems were written on that beach. Don't worry, I was a roving liberal.
Her poetry books are also photo journals with many pictures across the United States with a few from northern Mexico and southern Canada. See her clear, spectacular photos of the Florida Everglades, The Yellow Hair Highway in Canada, Santa Monica beach and La Jolla CA, just to mention a few. Links for both photo/poetry journals (only on Kindle by Cathy Smith) are on the Other Books page on this website. Or go to cathysmithpoetry.weebly.com for a very nice free slide show of some of her published photos. Even if you don't like poetry (and mine is free verse, without rhyme, more like a narration), you might really enjoy the photography. These poetry journals are close to my heart and would make fine inexpensive gifts.
